Well, aren't we special, so does the fact that the issue didn't affect you make it any less frustrating for those it did affect? Or are you saying because it didn't show up on your machine then it doesn't exist and we all did something to make it happen or it is a figment of our imagination?

You should try to read up on what I was responding to before you start shooting.

I was responding to this "Clearly it is the latest firmware that have broke the sound !"

I had already acknowledged the fact that audio doesn't work for you 28 posts ago and expressed frustration, I'm just saying this won't be an easy one to narrow down to find the root cause and solve it.... so "Clearly... nothing" it ain't that simple.

Will;
Your comment "Yeah Sure" implies disbelief. And why is it a "Problem" that it works for you? and not him? Perhaps you meant something else, but that's not how it came out. As English is my native language perhaps I took it literally, and something was lost. To me it sounded condescending. Sorry if I read it wrong.

Native?.... Now foolish me thinking you guys imported it from my neighbor the EnglishBig Grin
Peace...

I was just triggered by the "clearly this and that" ÿeah sure"..... as this one on HDMI is very murky for its role in working round the android OS for pass through playback.

Some focus on problems and faults others on solutions and success... no question who is the happy one.

RE: 20150213 (1.0.13) - Open Hour Chameleon Android Firmware
No need to argue about how Willem55 answered me, remember, writing something easy gets more powerful, both negative and positive than if you just said it Smile

I wrote "clearly" simply because as a electronic designer and a programmer myself, to me it is clearly the firmware update that cause the sound to disappear, it work before update, and the only thing done when it stop working was the firmware update, and a reboot.
I had to admit I did not read all pages here before adding my message about sound missing and Willem55 may have got frustrated of this issue and possible also if I have missed out something before writing on forum.

What can be more interesting is what we all can do to solve this problem ? Is there anything we can test, any debug screens or anything, anyone ?

RE: 20150213 (1.0.13) - Open Hour Chameleon Android Firmware
Thanks for clearing the air.

this is my 2 cents.

2 releases ago a fix was introduced to facilitate older displays that were having HDMI handshake failures resulting in bad color schemes(green/purple). This solution resulted in reducing brightness and color brilliance for all.
Then some changes were made to the audio handshake over HDMI to improve selecting the right codec.
This release supposedly rolled-back the HDMI color handshake which had a undiscovered impact on the HDMI audio negotiation routine for some setups, resulting in HDMI handshake fail on all audio.

FYI it's my believe that the white noise is also a HDMI handshake issue where the OHC assumed the AVR accepted the codec but the AVR is not ready for it, and a restart of same movie gives a successful HDMI audio handshake.

Problem with HDMI is that on startup EDID data is shared so all playback capabilities are known to the OHC but for each Video/CODEC/DRM change the HDMI is queried from all devices...... and manufactures have a loose interpretation of the standard.

in SPMC/Kodi there are logfiles and debug level settings you can use.

But I think the source of the issue is the lack of EDID support in the android kernel... as initially it was only for mobile device LCD with stereo speakers...

android 5 lollipop is supposed to remedy this.

Some focus on problems and faults others on solutions and success... no question who is the happy one.

But the passthrough function is working on the Android based VidOn Box and Minix Media Player.

Is it right?

I think it is a Rockchip based problem (HDMI IP block).

Does anyone know which Rockchip SDK is actually implemented?

No sense beating ourselves up on this sound over HDMI issue, we know it is a firmware issue so just connect a coaxial or Optical cable, get your sound back, and wait for the fix.
I did notice that the OH will not turn on the 1st time now that I am on optical out, I have to put it into standby, then back on for it to wake up now, probably a timing issue with
the Harmony now that I am off HDMI audio.

Guys, sorry for getting into your conversation, but can you explain why does everybody go crazy about passthrough function? What is it and what is it for? In what cases we might need it? Thank you for your time.

RE: 20150213 (1.0.13) - Open Hour Chameleon Android Firmware
audio to be decoded by the receiver and not the Chameleon...this is not important for user with audio from their TV speakers.

RE: 20150213 (1.0.13) - Open Hour Chameleon Android Firmware
Willem55, then it is my case. I have AV receiver, that can decode everything (even atoms, that doesn't make sense now). But how would you suggest to connect it? So far i have my chameleon connected to TV by HDMI and TV connected to receiver by HDMI. Is this correct in order to use passthrough? Or should i connect chameleon to receiver?

And, as many of you here, i run 1. 0. 13 and SPMC 14. 1. 0, and when i turn passthrough on - nothing happens. there is no sound.

RE: 20150213 (1.0.13) - Open Hour Chameleon Android Firmware
This firmware has a hdmi audio bug giving no audio for some using hdmi so dont test your setup on this release.

Go back to the last version, use a spare sd card if you have one as you can swop out firmwares via the sd cards on the ohc.

You should have hdmi passthough selected in your audio settings in Android ui advanced settings. You should have the following setup ohc <>hdmi <> avr <> hdmi <> tv.

Presently hd audio the only audio that needs hdmi bandwidth does not work so you could simply passthrough on this firmware if you use coax/optical for the ink from the ohc to the avr. Make sure to select that option and not hdmi in android advanced settings.

Great rom, at least for me since I'm not using any sort of passthrough. I do have a question, is there a way to completely turn off the device without unplugging it? If I attempt to power off, it just reboots. Any suggestions?

You can install an Android APP called Reboot that has an off option. Havent tried it yet myself.

edit - just tried it and the shutdown option simply rebooted the player.

Back in the old 2007 100 series NMT days it had no way to turn off and what a lot did was to go with remote control power plugs. They are around a £10 for three from the likes of Amazon. They are now a bit more fancy but can be got in singles or packs up to five, here's just one example:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00FMTC1HY?psc=1

I was expecting the usual Android power and reboot option to show from the new long press of POWER and not simply a reboot option myself. For me the unit still requires it if its possible from the remote itself so we'll have to keep pushing the remote control plugs are a cheap option should it not be possible.

RE: 20150213 (1.0.13) - Open Hour Chameleon Android Firmware
Has openhour acknowledged that firmware 13 causes issues with the audio on some Receivers. I also can't get my tv to switch to 3D.
When playing a 3D video and then pressing the 3D button on my sony 65 UHD tv it says signal not supported. Yet the same videos play ok on my Minix 8H. Using the latest version of SMBC.
