[DIY] Internal HDD Open Hour
Simply remove the hull of an external hard drive USB 3.0 500GB to 2TB and use Picos dedicated to a USB port of the Open Hour
Be careful doing this with your risk and peril as it is clear that you lose warranty
Next step for 3D printing support for hide and secure the hard drive + USB HUB chip welding for use the original USB Port

Nice.

Will this increase temps inside case ?

Y'know, I think, I think that a week from now, you'll be less in the mood for being amusing.

RE: [DIY] Internal HDD Open Hour
Good idea!
What is a USB hub you want to use? It would be nice module wi-fi in the same place inside, but I'm afraid because the metal case require an external antenna.

RE: [DIY] Internal HDD Open Hour
The external 2.5 "HDD heat very little.
Open Hour case is excellent for removing heat and i think have no problem with it Wink

RE: [DIY] Internal HDD Open Hour
Could you highlight in the photos where the connection to the board is? I think I know, but just want to be sure.

What is meant by "use Picos dedicated to a USB port"

RE: [DIY] Internal HDD Open Hour
I must be missing something here, why go to all of this trouble when all you have to do is take $49 USB 500GB HD and format it to fat32 and plug it in to the OH?

What about heat? That could be an issue.

Could be, someone used to have a lab camera that took heat shots whilst the early PCH models were in operation.

How are you finding your Toshiba/Hitachi USB HDD? I ask as I nearly got one but in the end went for a Seagate one which seems fine so far. There were a few reports of hibernation/power issues with the Hitachi in the thread I looked at from memory. Now I read there's issues with the Seagate's, seems no win situation in presales decisionland.

I have had it for 9 months and so far it has performed well. No spontaneous hibernation or power issues so far and I use it a lot for holding large files. I like this option for the OH better as if you need to put large files on it you can just plug it into your computer, network transfer is a lot slower than bus speed.

RE: [DIY] Internal HDD Open Hour
The advantage is that we have everything in one box practical for travel by exemple
One can also change the hard drive up to 2TB 2.5 "with the same connector and same case with hdd Samsung Spinpoint M9T 2000 GB / 2TB 2,5"

RE: [DIY] Internal HDD Open Hour
I received the printed 3D part.
I have also integrated a USB hub and now I have so an internal hard drive + 3 USB 2.0

The USB Hub is more complicated to implement because it is necessary to separate the IO son of the original USB connector. It is possible but you must have to patience Sleepy
