RE: 20141106 (1.0.6) - Beta Open Hour Chameleon Android Firmware
I can confirm that 1080p HEVC samba playback within native (non-kodi/xbmc) player is much more better. It's not perfect, but very watchable and performing extremely well compared to longer time releases from other vendors. It still needs a bit of work for us crazy aac 5.1 people, but it's very promising and I'm glad I grabbed one.

Nice work homies. Please keep it up. It's a beautiful machine.

Oh, yeah... I was (read:not currently) a professional audio video encryption expert. I'd like a few updates to the next release, but would rather soak this one out as it's a biggie and my updates can (SHOULD) wait. One thing I miss is that Chris used to maintain a beta and release in popcorn hour forum threads we could subscribe to for beta testing. Are those coming back?

Thumbs

RE: 20141106 (1.0.6) - Beta Open Hour Chameleon Android Firmware
Hy,

after installing the Firmware Update and the XBMC all films
in HD (mkv) are stuttering.

Seems the Kodi isn't supporting the hardware acceleration propperly.
There is no difference between harwareaccelerated and softwareaccelerated

RE: 20141106 (1.0.6) - Beta Open Hour Chameleon Android Firmware
i would like to share my experiences with the openhour so far.
I use the latest firmware (1.06) and the suggested xbmc/kodi release.
TV: Samsung F6500 connected directly via HDMI
Soundbar: Samsung 550 via Bluetooth

- There is no way to get any Audio with the built-in Android Player
(Tested with all 3 audio settings and also with firmware 1.05)

- There is stuttering in playing Movies and Music with Kodi
(my old wd tv live is playing well with same setup)

- Kodi seems to have an issue with rar-files while scanning to database
(takes huge amount of time)

If there are any suggestions that might help, please let me know

RE: 20141106 (1.0.6) - Beta Open Hour Chameleon Android Firmware
Can you guys confirm that the files play back fine without KODI? It's a big step forward to confirm that the files can indeed play smooth manually.

I've got some hefty 1080P HEVC encodes and they don't stutter, but I haven't tried KODI yet. I think KODI will get there, but that the open hour is playing back complicated files fine.

Also please include a mediainfo from text mode.

I'll be honest. My highest bitrate h.264 and highest bitrate HEVC encodes play fine. I have seen instances where the media source can't source the packets fast enough, and it's not an issue with the open hour. The mediainfo help understand what you are feeding (bitrates and whatnot).

On the audio issue, I'd check your setup. AC3, DTS, and AAC (decoded to 2-ch) all work fine over hdmi. I use a denon 3311, LG plasma (my setup's pretty good) where the denon does all the audio and it's great. I suspect it may be an older HDMI HDCP issue. Those happen a lot, and again not an issue with open hour.

RE: 20141106 (1.0.6) - Beta Open Hour Chameleon Android Firmware
Is my understanding correct that those builds ftp:vim:org/mediaplayer/xbmc/releases/android/arm/ (exchange colon, not have the right to post links yet) have no special RockChip support for the Chameleon build in?
In the future will there be RK3288 support implemented in all Kodi GA releases?

RE: 20141106 (1.0.6) - Beta Open Hour Chameleon Android Firmware
After investgating and wasting time in configuring the OpenHour Chameleon, I could say the following:

Mkv movies in1090p are stuttering
The tools for writing bootimages to SD-Card are only working if you have a windows XP Computer
The Android software don't support NFS. SMB is supported not properly.
Logon problems althoug the logon is working properly on other mediaplayers like TVIX or on OPENELC driven PC's.

The network connection speed is always shown as 100MBit

Thats what I found so far.

Can you double check your firmware and Kodi versions and let us know. http://wiki.openhourlab.com/index.php/Ch...on_Android

What video format did you tested with and without hardware acceleration?

Built-in Android Player does not decode DTS/DD, so you need to set to passthrough. However, a while ago, if I heard it correctly from our reseller that tested 2 Soundbar that suppose to decode DTS/DD, but found out they do not after tested with other media players. If you can confirmed that Samsung 550 does decode DTS/DD, then we might need you to capture some logs.

I saw someone found that set Audio to other than Default Output will caused stuttering. I have not confirm this, but will try to do it tomorrow when I back to office. Thanks.

Edit: Anything similar on this http://forum.openhourlab.com/showthread....49#pid1549

Anything in this

that may be similar to your case?

Adding this: I saw someone found that set Audio to other than Default Output will caused stuttering.

Sorry, if not above cases, then again, can you confirm with this:

You meant Win32DiskImager ? That's a 3rd party software, you can try other similar software if you can find on google. But so far I am using this Win32DiskImager on Windows 8.1 and it is working well.

Yes, the Samba feature on 1106 - 1.0.6 beta firmware is still in early beta stage. We already have an improved version to be released next week.

Can you let me know where is it shown, so I can double check and verify on this. Thanks.

I narrowed down my playback issues to problems with
the current SMB-Support because most files play well
directly from USB.

Looking forward to the improved Firmware next week

That's odd. My samba (windows 8.1) works fine with the native player.
