Android 5 & 6 on Chameleon
Can Android 5 or 6 be installed on the Chameleon ?

I don't find them in the software section.

Forget it. Lollipop was advertised here for the end of the chinese hollidays and the new chinese year in beginning of 2015 and until now nothing happens.
You have to stay with system 4.4 and the outdated special RK Kodi for this.
If you can't or wan't, you have to choose new hardware

RE: Android 5 & 6 on Chameleon
Well.... if you see any RockChip RK3288 Android upgrades on other brands running that really improves playback over the one we now use, let us know...

Some focus on problems and faults others on solutions and success... no question who is the happy one.

Chameleon 16GB SD 32GB micro SD <-->HDMIv1.3<-->Onkyo TX-NR1010<-->HDMIv1.3<-->Panasonic TX-P46S10 + 6 Bowers & Wilkins speakers.
10 NTFS 2TB USB drives on 3 hubs attached to a A400, 2 Seagate blackarmour NAS 3TB, 2 Seagate Central NAS 4TB.

They get KODI 16.1 support, wich is a huge step foward:
For example here:
http://ugoos.net/blog/rk3288-joint-updat...are_v3.0.7
and here:
http://freaktab.com/forum/tv-player-supp...6-by-mo123

do you read the magical words:
- New Rockchip Kodi 16.1 with standard Audio API support
STANDARD API SUPPORT!!!

And they have in addition support for the Rockchip optimized KODI called RKMC
http://freaktab.com/forum/tv-player-supp...ed-on-kodi
and please notice from April this year:
"The firmware should be from next week, so anything earlier won't work.
So everyone has to wait a while until manufacturers include the patches into their firmware."

...we have to wait until Open Hour pulls there fingers from the arse in include the Rockchip patches for proper working KODI. Now we have August and nothing happens here.

Yeah I know about the Ugoos beta but I'm not sure that it really improves the media playback experience over the one we now use or just opens up a new can of worms.

Its not an Ugoos thingy, Rockchip have altered there sources and have provided patches to all RK providers. But ugoos seems the only manufacturer that cares about the people.

I'm really shure besides the new KODI feature like pointing every time on the last seen episode that i won't miss anymore. KODI 15.x is an absolute no-go form me.
Do you think Rockchip creates patches und support an optimized RK-KODI and get only the same result as before?

Take a look into the sources, they have optimized many things:
https://github.com/JamesLinEngineer/RKMC

Open Hour have long time nothing done with the argument - we don't get anything from Rockchip - since April Rockchip have done and it is time that Open Hour does something.

RE: Android 5 & 6 on Chameleon
Don't hold your breath, they sold only a few chameleons and had a bad experience with android. The company is now focused on their Popcornhour range and doing well.
They had a bad time with the Kodi crew from day one, so a lot will need to change before they will invest time and money in the Kodi android circus.

because they have received from the beginning poor reviews , have one hand the device advertised aggressively with mediaplaying and KODI, have done on the other hand never support it. And it was not helpful, that users like you all glossed with arguments such as: " the KODI symbol on the package is only to show that you can install any Android software and not that it must run proper" instead of forcing the developers to do their job

Quote:and had a bad experience with android.

No one have forced the developers to use such an operating system, they had also spend a few bucks and let the OpenELEC-team doing something.

...so we get all a "doing well box" for free instead the "doing worse box"?

a great performance: we have not found enough dumbass who bought our box, so we do not remove errors, or set the box in the advertised state.

BTW, why should anyone "let us know" if there are improved RK-boxes on the market, if no one will care about?

RE: Android 5 & 6 on Chameleon
You always keep forgetting that you a talking to another user.
hooray for your opinions but I don't agree on your flavor of the facts.
Even before it was sold we said it was a chancy venture with no guarantees... right here on this user forum.
There was never a "aggressive" advertising and Kodi capabilities has always been a variable as it is now between android mediaplayers and other systems based on Pi, openelec or windows they all say Kodi but the user experience is not the same.

No OpenElec on RK3288 AFAIK

refund? Go ask their marketing department if you think that suggestion has any chance.... I'm not going to be that dumbass.

as for "let us know"... if oneday someone really fixes the RK3288-android-Kodi mess and it substantially improves media playback and not just the Kodi usability, then yes we have something to chase developers.... for now I think they will stick with PCH superior picture and audio quality on a Linux system that they can manage themselves as opposed to a system that makes them depend on Google and the Kodi crew..... but Kudo's to Ugoos when they pull it off in a way that can sustain their business.

now just wait for btezB to say thank you on your postsSleepy

divination is not difficult, because now changed many of the former users to other hardware (or they was banned like Amigawolf) and them the chameleon does not matter anymore
