Almost there. Short of a miracle there is probably nothing CM could ever do to earn my business again but, I wanted to give this thing one more shot. It is the closest this box has come to actually being remotely operational. Still no hd audio and sound gets slightly out of sync but a HUGE improvement. And it only took a year LOL. I have a Roku 4 that is two weeks from launch and it works way better than this not to mention the Shield which is only slightly more expensive. Yay. Good luck guys, I’m done.

And that's the point where you think... shit they're not stupid and guess there is a very compelling reason..

what do you mean ? for what reason is smpc/kodi not able to play 4K ? i mean if it's the intention, I pain to understand why

Yep now we have finally reached beta...it shows at which point this thing was fucked up ! Just imagine that nobody (or almost) is still having interest and buying this device at this time. I mean do you think they are selling 10 OHC/month ? not sure... It also means that all development they are doing on that rockchip chipset is pure loss. it's clear for everyone Smile

Someone knows next CM plan's ? Can we expect other updates or was this the last shot ?

everything becomes easy if you lower the specifications/expectations http://www.engadget.com/products/roku/4/specs/

RE: 20151023 (1.0.33) - Beta Open Hour Chameleon Android Firmware
The new version of Kodi (16.0 - Jarvis) will use "Android Surface Rendering" mainly to support more devices at their native resolution (like UHD/4K).
As I understand it, Android Surface Rendering is like the Direct-X of Android.
In my opinon the firmware of the OHC should enable full Rockchip support for Android by using the standard method (= ASR). That way there is no need for 'special' KODI builds with special drivers. Otherwise I would need a special version of KODI, VLC, [name your favourite player here] or Android games to make the most use of the device.
Same goes for the audio codecs. Why still use the abandoned libstagefright to implement a Rockchip audiocodec? MediaCodec is the official and Android supported way to implement this!
Does anybody know if native and future-proof Android support (using Android Surface Rendering and MediaCodec) is something that is being worked on for the OHC?

RE: 20151023 (1.0.33) - Beta Open Hour Chameleon Android Firmware
I'm pretty much sure someone said it already, but both DTS HD MA and TrueHD/Atmos sound cut off randomly after some minutes(sometimes 5, sometimes 15, sometimes 20... )
Changing the Audio source to another (DD 5.1, DTS 5,1 etc) and than back fixing it for next 5/10/15/20 etc minutes.

Sound keeps cutting out when I watch Norman Collier.

Y'know, I think, I think that a week from now, you'll be less in the mood for being amusing.

Ha only 23 times Big Grin
Not bad, lets hope for faster fix then last firmware :/
Seems quicker solution to pause the video for 10 secs, resume it and sound is back for some minutes again.

and when that get's boring switch to downmix and just watch the movie in stereo or whatever your AVR can upscale form 2 channels.

RE: 20151023 (1.0.33) - Beta Open Hour Chameleon Android Firmware
Nope that wont work either, I watch in stereo downmix and it causes audio gaps as well in that.

Nothing like as much as it used to but still there. Switching only RKlib and the rk23.976 setting and adding a delay to the refresh rate cut it back a bit again.

What about you guys with AVR's when using the inbuilt AV media app?

OHC > HDMI > TV (Panasonic 42G20)
Downmix stereo using standard Kodi(MC) 15.2 no hware/acc OK
Downmix stereo 1.0.40/RK Kodi(RKlib) 15.2 infrequent audio gaps hware/acc OK

No DTS downmix available for inbuilt eMC player

Gecko> HDMI > TV (Panasonic 42G20)
Downmix stereo using Gecko Kodi 15.0 OK
Downmix using inbuilt MediaCentre OK

Does anybody know if Rockchip continued to work on the stability issues that were reported ? Just curious, as all has gone a bit quiet again....

As stated in the opening post this beta is for first testing of the new RK playback framework and a first start with RK Kodi. Of course RK are still working on it and its only been 20 days since this was released, in the meantime we've also seen a new firmware for the Gecko and Vten from CM. No one is sitting on their hands.

OHC > HDMI > TV (Panasonic 42G20)
Downmix stereo using standard Kodi(MC) 15.2 no hware/acc OK
Downmix stereo 1.0.40/RK Kodi(RKlib) 15.2 infrequent audio gaps hware/acc OK

No DTS downmix available for inbuilt eMC player

Gecko> HDMI > TV (Panasonic 42G20)
Downmix stereo using Gecko Kodi 15.0 OK
Downmix using inbuilt MediaCentre OK

RE: 20151023 (1.0.33) - Beta Open Hour Chameleon Android Firmware
Come on, you are blaming afss for asking about news when we are speaking of a product that was released more than a year ago. For which a fast update to Android Lollipop was promised that is still not here and for which we still have pretty important bugs. 20 days without a release is already long and no stable build since last june is just insane. Others like Synology are releasing updates routinely when their products are already stable...
I'm willing to be patient and have been sitting around here for more than a year. I don't want to criticize for the sake of criticizing but a bit of honesty to acknowledge that they have messed up on this topic would be a minimum.
No offense, just stating my thoughts!
