Gecko Bugfix Requests
Bugfix Requests
Lets try to maintain a list of confirmed bugs that we need to have fixed on the Gecko.
A bugfix request thread is for serious reports on functionalities that are failing.
A clear and detailed explanation of your hardware setup and system settings is useful.
A clear and detailed description of the fault and the way it can be replicated/confirmed by other users and Firmware developers should be part of the bug report.

Definition of a bug: A functionality that was in the feature list or can be reasonably expected to be, that fails.
Everyone with the same Gecko with the same hardware configuration and setup should be able to reproduce the failure.(otherwise it's a defect that needs repair)

List of user reported bugs: Minor -- Basic -- Major -- Fixed

1. HDMI data not persistent screen falls back to 720p instead of previous 1080p if display goes offline.
2. full screen setting affects brightness and contrast
3. The Kodi UI navigation while playing video is laggy. Does not happen in SPMC.
4. Video at 23.976 fps gives a frame jump every 42 seconds when played back on a 24p(Hz) display.
5. Video playback using default hiplayer fails on SMB shares in Optimised Kodi.
6. In the "optimized" Kodi the ability to playback from a RAR container is lost.
7. Hebrew subs are mirrored
8.
9.
10.

Workarounds:
1. Turn off the Optimal display format option in Advanced Settings.
3. set android UI size to 720p.
5. mount remote shares in Media Centre and point Kodi to local /mnt/smb/ share as source.

I will add the reported bugs to this list in post #1 so please check post #1 if your bug is already in here before posting... "me too" post will be removed...
If a listed bug does not manifests in your configuration please let us know.. it will help narrowing down the root cause.
Playback of downloaded content should be checked for "garbage in garbage out" before posting it here as a bug.... start a new thread if you need help.

Opinions on The Gecko, Openhour and Firmware development should be posted elsewhere on this forum but will be removed if posted in this thread.

Some focus on problems and faults others on solutions and success... no question who is the happy one.

RE: Gecko Bugfix Requests
My Gecko - Onkyo - Panasonic setup returns in the right 1080p resolution even when Display and/or AVR goes offline.
first time setup of screen and correcting overscan did not change the image brightness but I need to replicate it a few times to maybe notice a difference.
Kodi navigation during playback is a little bit slower than with the other playback apps but not annoyingly.

Can you try to change the UI size to 720P at Android Settings

Display->UI Size

it should helps to improve the overall UI rendering speed.

I can confirm this does the magic thing for me, thanks. Family will be happy to not have to change that each time. This issue can be "closed" Smile

Framerate bug 23.976 plays at 24hz
Media with 23.976hz files are playing at 24hz and needs to be fix.

Another user report the same here.

Thats confirm my findings about the wrong clock..
The untrained eye might not see it, but from the moment you understand what looking for will be very annoying every 42 seconds.

I am 99% sure it is just my tv, I can make the same "dimming" happen changing size in Wii setup etc. Just ignore this, any excuse to buy a new TV is helpful. Smile

What happens with 23.976 fps video when screen is set to 50p or 60p?

RE: Gecko Bugfix Requests
Any chance of adding the problem me and another chap are having re Hiplayer not playing any files (me) or only certain files (other chap) in Kodi:

Log posted here:
http://xbmclogs.com/pn7ll337e

I've tried many SMB shares on differing devices using other login details and still no go. I can delete files using Kodi so its not a permission issue. I can play them via SMB from MediaCenter using hiplayer fine. I've tried MKV, MP4, BD ISO, BDMV, etc. and nothing will play. They will play in Kodi using DVDPlayer via Menu > Play using/with aswell.

OHC > HDMI > TV (Panasonic 42G20)
Downmix stereo using standard Kodi(MC) 15.2 no hware/acc OK
Downmix stereo 1.0.40/RK Kodi(RKlib) 15.2 infrequent audio gaps hware/acc OK

No DTS downmix available for inbuilt eMC player

Gecko> HDMI > TV (Panasonic 42G20)
Downmix stereo using Gecko Kodi 15.0 OK
Downmix using inbuilt MediaCentre OK

RE: Gecko Bugfix Requests
Yep but I've also tried SMB links to \\CS407\multimedia and \\A400\share\Download etc.. Its just how the Seagate external HDD's and the ASUS routers set themselves up. It's not the problem and I did think of that as a potential issue as it was early in the development of the Vten. However like I say it would not play from simpler share links either. I've uninstalled Kodi, added only the simple share from my download folder on my A400 to Kodi and still no way. I've tried shares from my NAS still no go. I can delete so no issue re access and permissions.

RE: Gecko Bugfix Requests
Please narrow down the issue

I haven't fiddled with the Hiplayer - DVDplayer XML and no issues with SMB
Hiplayer is the default player in the "optimized" Kodi

another interesting link from the Kodi forum regarding the HiMedia Q5 http://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=...pid2127356

check out user HDMKV posts on the Kodi forum and ask him what his relationship with HiMedia is.

RE: Gecko Bugfix Requests
What do you mean narrow it down? I've been up down round and about in my testing of filetypes smb shares.
I've tested outside of kodi using hiplayer I presume in MediaCenter and it works for all smb shares.
The issue as per the supplied log is hiplayer not playing. DVD player works just not hiplayer which I know is the default.
Playback starts at 16.08 on linked log.
The player sets up kodi and downloads some user XML it should work as standard. I've enabled debugging, uploaded a log, tested differing devices smb shares, different file types, etc. I have not and don't intend to mess with the XML files to get things working owners won't expect to have to do likewise even if they knew where and how on startup.
