RE: New Product Launch - Open Hour Gecko
Does it have the ability to take screenshots in the Android settings like the OHC?

I ask as I came across this rather longwinded way to take screnshots and videos on another HI3798M box:
http://www.cnx-software.com/2015/01/06/h...ot-access/
It also suggests that rooting may not be required so hopefully Android Samba APPS and other essentials that require root access may not need you to root? Two I use are esfilexplorer, sambafileserver, and others that require root access.
ADB drivers are required first though.

OHC > HDMI > TV (Panasonic 42G20)
Downmix stereo using standard Kodi(MC) 15.2 no hware/acc OK
Downmix stereo 1.0.40/RK Kodi(RKlib) 15.2 infrequent audio gaps hware/acc OK

No DTS downmix available for inbuilt eMC player

Gecko> HDMI > TV (Panasonic 42G20)
Downmix stereo using Gecko Kodi 15.0 OK
Downmix using inbuilt MediaCentre OK

RE: New Product Launch - Open Hour Gecko
I've changed my mind, I will use Gecko for now. Just use SPMC for rar video, same sound output as OHC after all. And Gecko's kodi to watch movie, and get pass-through and nice crisp video. The UI lag is annoying but not a deal breaker

I found that when using the screen "zoom" feature to make the image output fit the screen size, the screen goes a bit darker once it gets close to fitting right (no borders). That's a bit annoying, either nice full screen, or borders and vivid Smile

RE: New Product Launch - Open Hour Gecko
Reading Lundman's posts HD Audio passthrough is not there, so I don't think SPMC was developed with the Hisilicon 3798M in mind.
SPMC like Kodi doesn't work using a internal playback engine but uses it's own playback engine which in the case of the Hisilicon 3798M and the Rockchip RK3288 is sub-optimal.
Whether koying is willing to adopt the Openhour solution in the next SPMC release as a configurable option is up to him, same goes for Kodi development.
In the past Kodi development rejected to incorporate that type of solution, but I do hope they would look into it again... I guess taking a look at the SDK's should shed enough light.

Some focus on problems and faults others on solutions and success... no question who is the happy one.

Plays NASA UHD stream fairly well, a bit jerky.
Will not play Fashion One's UHD or 4K streams.
Hopefully OH will send me FTP to send files for test.

Why not just post the links so we can all test?

Because there are no links to post. They are not publicly available to the average user here at this point in time.

I don't have permission to publicly share those, however OH did send me FTP info for the streams for their testing. Smile

RE: New Product Launch - Open Hour Gecko
Ah ok, apart from Kodi not playing RAR files, here is something else they need to fix.

I run both Gecko and OHC in 1080p, connected to AMP, connected to TV.

Then I turn off my TV, for some period of time.

When I turn the TV back on, both gecko and OHC are now in 720p mode, and no sound.

With OHC, I can push power button to sleep it, and again, to wake it up, and it remembers, and re-initialises, the screen to 1080p.

With Gecko, I have to go to settings, video, and select 1080p again. This is rather tedious.

They both need to re-initialise the video output again when the TV comes back on. And Gecko definitely needs to save the Video preference better, if I just reboot when it's confused at 720p, it does not boot back into 1080p. I have to go to settings each time I sleep the TV.

Do we have a bug tracker yet, or am I just an old man yelling at clouds Smile

Have identified there are some of faulty US power supply. We have contacted the affected US customers for a replacement.
