SPMC or Kodi?
I have the Chameleon with XBMC installed (I recieved it yesterday and dont even think its latest firmware for Android. Anyhow, I dont use any passthrough at all, just to my TV through hdmi in my bedroom. It seems to work excellent. I just wanna know what SPMC differs from Kodi? Is it quicker or same same but different?

Btw, when Im in Kodi and press poweroff button on remote (to close player) it goes to sleep which is nice but when I power it on its a screen on Kodi saying "Exit" (if I want to exit Kodi), I just press cancel (the X) and goes on. But is there anyway to disarm Kodi from react to powerbutton? (maybe this goes in another forum)

RE: SPMC or Kodi?
Stick with Kodi if you're not using an AVR

Some focus on problems and faults others on solutions and success... no question who is the happy one.

Chameleon 16GB SD 32GB micro SD <-->HDMIv1.3<-->Onkyo TX-NR1010<-->HDMIv1.3<-->Panasonic TX-P46S10 + 6 Bowers & Wilkins speakers.

RE: SPMC or Kodi?
Ok thx.. I must say I was ready to return this player to the store but since it resume last stand so excellent and fast I will stick with it Tongue. I takes approx 1-2 seconds for it to start from standby to Kodi (and even to my movielist directly). Its just a second player for my bedroom so Im happy (just gave 80 Euros also =)

Btw, no chance to install Kodibuntu on this one? I have no use for other things than Kodi.

RE: SPMC or Kodi?
I'm sure you can if you are into it and have some advanced skills as they have got video acceleration working for the RK3288 in Linux Kodi now. There's stuff on this over at Freaktab. Also the really good plus side of the OHC is that you cannot brick it as everything is stored on the SD card. So you can have a few, one for your goto stable setup, one for testing say linux, and a further one and simply load which one when powering up.

OHC > HDMI > TV (Panasonic 42G20)
Downmix stereo using standard Kodi(MC) 15.2 no hware/acc OK
Downmix stereo 1.0.40/RK Kodi(RKlib) 15.2 infrequent audio gaps hware/acc OK

No DTS downmix available for inbuilt eMC player

Gecko> HDMI > TV (Panasonic 42G20)
Downmix stereo using Gecko Kodi 15.0 OK
Downmix using inbuilt MediaCentre OK

See my signature for my setup w/o audio gaps or stutter/disco effect.

RE: SPMC or Kodi?
I use a Denon AVR does that make a difference?

Latest SPMC is basically unusable, constant lock ups in the menus (not while playing video) and audio drops.

Its really disappointing where the Openhour is at with regards to Kodi and SPMC.

I guess I could look at Kodi again if I can get the audio drops to go away and I can get 5.1 audio going through the Denon via HDMI.

Im going to give this beta firmware and the rockchip custom kodi a try ...if it doesnt work I might go back to my A300 or buying something else.

EDIT: Just plugged the A300 back in, apart from an ugly and clunky menu system it has flawless playback, will keep the wife happy.

You have two options:
1.) using older version like 1.0.10 with SPMC 14.2 - works in some constellations for some users
...if you need newer KODI and OS:
2.) Using 1.0.33 and RK-custom-Kodi is your only chance since Rockchip doesn't use the proper way (official Google API calls) to implement passthrough.
Koying (SPMC coder) have implement passthrough in KODI 16-17 the google way and have stated that other APIs aren't supported anymore.
Devices like the nVidia Shield that have downported the google API to lower Android versions can use the KODI passthrough or the forthcoming new SPMC.

With chameleon we have to sit and wait, if Rockcip/OH will supply a new KODI and/or OS build.

As each month goes by and no word on progress, this seems like it will not happen.

RE: SPMC or Kodi?
I just want a box that has flawless 1080p playback with 5.1 pass through running latest Kodi, why is it so hard?

Back on my A300 for now, searching the market for an alternative, wetek openelec box and the wetek core look interesting.

If you only need 1080p and 5.1 PT the Raspberry is the best solution. It switches all content to the right resolution/fps, play DD5.1 and DTS core and is the only device i know about, that can MVC full frame 3D with full resolution.
(HiMedia Q5/Q10 and others seems to do only half 3D)

Check out the Openhour Gecko for 1080p and 4K with multichannel HD audio PT and does Kodi.
Cloudmedia VTEN does MKV MVC full Frame 3D but doesn't do Kodi.

Grabbed a Intel NUC N3050 $194 AUD + 8GB Ram $58 AUD + SD card I had already and now have OpenELEC 6.0 running controlled by Kore on my Nexus 7.

Similar price to the OHC and much better in everyway. i.e. will be supported.

OHC is going on Ebay, will keep my A300 as backup and run the OpenELEC box as my every day media player (its even wife safe with Kore as a controller).

Furthermore I am not sure why I bothered with an Android box for $150USD when it has no better support than a <$50USD Android box.
